Monroe E. Maltby wrote that he was an adopted son of Calvin Maltby, and if he was not a Maltby descendant his name should not be here. The writer, however, believes that he must have had Maltby blood, as this family bears a strong resemblance to other Maltbys. He mar. in 1867, Elizabeth Hayes of Detroit, Minn. He d. June 8,1880. He saw four years of active service in the Civil War; a member of the 94th New York Vol. Infantry, and once was captured by the Confederates and confined in Saulsbury; the hardships of the war broke his health so that he was never the same again, and after moving west and prac- ticing medicine nine years, he finally died at the early age of 37. He left Adams Centre, N.Y., in 1871, moving to Detroit, Minn. (Records by his son, Jay Hayes Maltby). (Detroit in Becker Co., Minn.)
